The Arthur King lineup for this project consists of Peter Walker (of Eulogies) and Aaron Espinoza (of Earlimart). In contrast to the full 8-person ensemble Arthur King & The Night Sea, this scaled-down duo crafts a sound much more steeped in minimalism, repetition, and subtle timbral shifts. The duo combines synthesizer, guitar, and drum machine with sounds derived from field recordings to assemble looping arrangements that recall the harmonic and textural density of Seefeel or Christian Fennesz with the raw percussive foundation of classic Jamaican dub productions of Lee “Scratch” Perry or Scientist.

All the sonic material used on Changing Landscapes (Grand Escalante) is derived from a trip the Arthur King collective took to the Grand Staircase- Escalante National Monument in rural Utah during the summer of 2017. Both the instrumentation and environmental sounds were recorded in this remote desert setting and then further processed and rearranged to construct the final musical results. The sounds of dry leaves, dirt, and water meld together with bubbly filtered guitars and droning synth layers to form the contemplative heart of this album.
